Lớp học Phật giáo bằng Anh ngữ tại Kualalumpur

Kuala Lumpur, February 22, 2006- Khoảng 20 trẻ em chăm chú lắng nghe khi Sư Sumetta Maha Thero thuộc Giáo Hội Phật Giáo Mahindarama diễn giảng giáo pháp tại Berapit, Bukit Merte-jam, Mã Lai.

Nhóm trẻ trong lứa tuổi từ 7 đến 12 này là nhóm tiên phong trong việc tham dự buổi khai mạc Lớp học miễn phí của trường dạy tiếng Pali ngày Chủ Nhật, được thành lập bởi Hội Phật Giáo Vivekavana cho trẻ em vùng Bukit Merta-jam

Sư Sumetta nói rằng thật quan trọng để gieo chủng tử Phật pháp trong tâm thức trẻ con để chúng có thể học hỏi đưa tới một đời sống đúng đắn.

Sư nói đề tài của hai giờ học bao gồm một lãnh vực rộng lớn về Phật giáo như là thấu suốt giáo pháp và thực hành kỉnh mộ, kệ kinh và để bát cúng dường.

Ủy viên Hội Ðồng điều hành trường Pali Chủ Nhật, Dr Lee nói đây là tổ chức Phật Giáo đầu tiên trên đất liền giảng dạy Pali Chủ Nhật bằng Anh ngữ.

Các trường Pali khác ở Taman Sentosa và Taman Sri Rambai ở Bukit Mertajam giảng dạy các lớp học của họ bằng tiếng Quan Thoại.

Chúng tôi quyết định sử dụng Anh ngữ vì mong muốn trẻ em cải thiện khả năng ngôn ngữ của chúng.

Ông Lee nói rằng 10 vị giáo thọ gần đây đã được gửi đi tu nghiệp 3 tháng tại trường Phật Giáo Mahindarama trước khi tham gia giảng dạy tại trườngPali.

Ông Ủy Viên hội đồng hành chánh Lau Chiek Tuan, người đã thành lập trường học, nói rằng trẻ em quen thuộc với kiến thức Phật Giáo thường trở nên những công dân có kỷ luật và đầy đủ trách nhiệm.

Tôi hy vọng rằng các vị giảng viên trường Pali Chủ Nhật hãy đơn giản hóa bài h ọc để các em dễ dàng theo dõi đề tài.

Buddhist class in English

SOME 20 children listened at-tentively as Mahindarama Buddhist Society high priest Rev Sumetta Maha Thero delivered a Dharma talk in Berapit, Bukit Merta-jam.

The seven to 12 year-olds were the pioneer group to attend the inaugural free Sunday Pali school on Sunday, set up by the Vivekavana Buddhist Society for children in Bukit Merta-jam.

Rev Sumetta said it was important to sow the seeds of Buddhism in the young minds so that they could learn to lead a righteous life.

He said the syllabus of the weekly two-hour long Pali school covered a wide aspect of Buddhism such as un-derstanding the religion and practising filial piety, chanting and giving of offerings.

The school’s committee member Dr Lee Chai Guan said it was the first Buddhist organisation on the mainland to conduct the Sunday Pali school in English.

“The other Pali schools in Taman Sentosa and Taman Sri Rambai in Bu-kit Mertajam conduct their classes in Mandarin.

“We decided to use English as we wanted the children to improve their command of the language,” he said.

Dr Lee said that 10 teachers re-cently underwent three months of training at the Mahindarama Bud-dhist School on Kampar Road prior to teaching at the Pali school.

State executive councillor Lau Chiek Tuan who opened the school, said children with sound knowledge in Buddhism often became responsible and well-disciplined citizens.

“I hope the Pali school teachers will simplify their lessons so that the children can easily follow the sylla-bus,” said Lau who is also Berapit as-semblyman.
