Phát hiện tượng Phật quý giá hồi thế kỷ thứ 10.

Bangalore - 15 tháng 02, 2006 Các khảo cổ gia miền Nam Ấn đã khai quật được 2 bức tượng từ thế kỷ thứ 10 và bia đá ghi chép lại một chuyến viếng thăm của một Vị Vua Phật tử đến từ khu vực Đông Nam Á.

Người ta tìm thấy những bức tượng này vào ngày thứ bảy bên dưới tàn dư đổ nát của một văn phòng chính phủ thuộc ngôi làng Kolappakkam, miền nam Madras.

Trên bia đá granite, Chữ viết được khắc bằng tiếng Tamil, kể chuyện một vị vua thuộc triều đại Srivijaya đến từ quốc đảo Sumatra - ngày nay thuộc Indonesia - đã tới viếng thăm ngôi đền tôn thờ thần Shiva, hậu thân của thần Agastheeshwara.

Bia đá còn cho biết vị vua đã mua một mảnh đất và cúng dường cho ngôi đền.
Trên bia đá chỉ khắc Niên Hiệu của các vị vua đó và còn phải tra xét, tìm kiếm lại coi họ là vị vua nào thuộc triều đại các vua Srivijaya.

Các bức tượng bằng đá cao 1 mét cho thấy đức Phật có hình dáng khuôn mặt giống người Đông Á với tư thế thiền, chứng tỏ chúng đã được vua Srivijaya mang đến cúng dường .

10th-century Buddha statues found in India



Bangalore - Archaeologists in southern India have unearthed two 10th-century Buddha statues with inscriptions recording the visit of a Buddhist king from Southeast Asia, an official said on Wednesday.

The finds were made on Saturday beneath the debris of a demolished government office building in the village of Kolappakkam, just south of the southern city of Madras, T Satyamurthy, the region's top government archaeologist, told The Associated Press.

"The discovery is very important evidence of the strong diplomatic, religious and trade relations between India and Southeast Asia more than a thousand years ago," Satyamurthy said by telephone from Madras.

The site lies close to a temple of Lord Shiva, a major Hindu god, and must have been part of the temple premises in ancient times, he said.

The granite inscriptions, written in the Tamil language, say a king of the Srivijaya dynasty from the island kingdom of Sumatra - part of modern-day Indonesia - made a pilgrimage to the temple, where Shiva is worshipped in an incarnation known as Lord Agastheeshwara.

The Buddhist Srivijaya monarchs also worshipped Lord Agastheeshwara, Satyamurthy said.

The writings also said the king purchased land locally and donated them to the temple.

The inscriptions identify the king only by his titles and further research is needed to establish his identity among the Srivijaya kings of that period, he said.

The meter-tall (three-feet-tall) stone statues show Buddha with more east Asian facial features and in a meditative pose, suggesting they must have been brought by the visiting king, Satyamurthy said. Buddha was born Prince Siddhartha in India. - Sapa-AP
