Sri Lanka Primer Minister hails the role of the Temple

Colombo (Sri Lanka) ── Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa paid tribute to the Maha Sanga of Sri Lanka for the role they play in identifying and providing solutions to social problems which affect the masses of this country.
Participating as the chief guest at a ceremony held at the Wevalwala Sri Sonuththarama Temple to present the `Akthapathra' to Ven. Pannala Sumedha Thera appointing him as the Sanga Nayaka of the Pahala Dolospaththuwe, Mahiyangana, and Dambadeniya, the Prime Minister spoke in praise of the commendable service rendered by the Ven. Sanganayaka to the Buddha Sasana, literature, traditional art and in general to uplift the society.
"The greatest service of this erudite Thera to the Buddha Sasana was nothing but making the Dhamma available to the English reader. The Ven. Sanganayaka has taken pains to translate the Buddha Dhamma into English which helps to spread the noble teachings of the Thathagatha to the whole universe," the Prime Minister said.
Addressing the gathering further Prime Minister Rajapaksa said "I am aware as a villager myself that it is the temple mainly instrumental in moulding up the Sinhala Buddhist Culture. All problems find solution at the temple. It is only after the invasion by the West we resort to legal proceedings to solve our problems. It is time we change that and get closer to the temple. It is only through such a course of action we will be able to inculcate our traditional moral values in the present and the future generations."
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over with reverence, the scroll containing the letter of appointment to the Sanga Nayaka at the ceremony held in the presence of a distinguish gathering which included Ministers, MPs, Provincial Council and Pradeshiya Sabha Members and host of other invitees.
