The morning session of the 3rd International Buddhist Conference on the 2nd day

On the second day of the Third International Buddhist Conference on the United Nations Day of Vesak 2006, the event has moved from Buddhamonthon in Nakhon Pathom Province to the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
At around 8:30 AM today, over 1,500 Buddhist leaders and scholars from 45 countries around the world performed the chanting and meditation for approximately 15 minutes. Later on, honorable and special guests, including Deputy Prime Minister Suwat Liptapanlop, UNESCAP Executive Secretary Kim Hak-su, and UNESCO Office Director Sheldon Shaeffer, gave an opening address.
According to Mr. Suwat’s message, he has been assigned by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to be closely involved in the preparation and organizing of this Conference. The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that this conference will make a much expected contribution to the burning issue of world peace and sustainable development.
Following the messages from the guests of honour, a discussion on "The Buddhist Contribution to World Peace and Sustainable Development" proceeded until today's scheduled luncheon.
