Chư Tăng ngoại quốc tham dự lễ hội Poson tại Tích Lan
Monday, June 20, 2005, 11:42 GMT: Tăng sĩ và tín đồ Phật Giáo từ vài quốc gia đã đáp xuống phi trường quốc tế Bandanaraike, Colombo Tích Lan sáng nay để tham dự một lễ hội liên quan đến ngày Poson Poya.
Poson Poya là một ngày lễ rất ý nghĩa với Phật tử trong niềm tin đây là ngày Phật Giáo du nhập vào Tích Lan bởi Ngài Mihindu Maha Rahathanwahanse, hoàng tử con Vua A Dục, cũng là một thánh tăng vào thời bấy giờ, khi Ðức Vua người Sinhala Devanampiyatissa đang cai trị đất nước Tích Lan, vào thế kỷ thứ ba trước Tây Lịch. Tăng đoàn Phật Giáo đầu tiên đã đến Mihintalaya và ở lại với Ngài Mihindu Thera trong suốt 48 năm.
Nhóm người đã đến sáng nay gồm có chư Tăng từ Tân Gia Ba do ÐÐ Gunarathna Thera hướng dẫn. Trong thời gian tham dự lễ hội, nhóm này cũng thực hiện những công tác cứu trợ nạn nhân tsunami.
Một nhóm khác gồm 220 tu sĩ, Phật tử từ Thái Lan cũng đến sáng nay. Ông Sabaragamuwa, Thống Ðốc Mahipala Herath đã đón tiếp họ tại phi trường Katunayake.

June 20, Colombo: Buddhist monks and laymen from several countries arrived this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport to participate in religious ceremonies connected with the Poson Poya.
Poson Poya day is a very significant day for Buddhists as they believe this was the day Buddhism was brought to Sri Lanka by Ven. Mihindu Maha Rahathanwahanse, son of King Asoka, when the Sinhala King Devanampiyatissa ruled the country in the third century BC. The first Buddhist missionaries arrived at Mihintalaya and they were here along with Ven. Mihindu (Mahinda) Thera for about 48 years.
The group this morning included Buddhist monks from Singapore led by Ven. Dr. K. Gunarathna Thera. The group during their stay here will also provide assistance to tsunami victims to rebuild their lives.
Another group of 220 including monks and laymen from Thailand also arrived today. Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Mahipala Herath received them at the airport in Katunayake.
