Winnipeg, Canada, 22 tháng 09, 2005, (Asiantribune.com): Phim tài liệu trình bày một lãnh vực thu hút của văn hóa Tích Lan với chủ đề “Nghệ Thuật Của Thế Giới Cổ Xưa :Di Sản Họa Phẩm Phật Giáo tại Tích Lan” sẽ được tổ chức ở Trung Tâm Nghệ Thuật St Norbert vào ngày 14 và 15 tháng Mười, 2005 như là một phần trong Hội Nghị “ Trường Phái Tôn Giáo Thế Giới” được dự định tổ chức tại Hội Trường Giáo Dục của Ðại Học Manitoba.
Ðây là một chương trình trình chiếu kết hợp bởi (1)TrungTâm Nghệ Thuật St Norbert thuộc thành phố Winnipeg, Canada, (2) Tu Viện Phật Giáo Manitoba và Hiệp Hội Văn Hóa, (3) Cơ Quan Triển Lãm Phục Vụ Du Lịch Brampton, Ontario.
Cuốn phim trình bày một lãnh vực thú vị của văn hóa tầm nhìn của Tích Lan. Nỗ lực này nhằm cung cấp một cơ hội thưởng thức một cảm hứng về thẩm mỹ, nghệ thuật và tâm linh xuyên qua nghệ thuật Phật Giáo. Những họa phẩm này thuộc về số họa phẩm cao quý và ý nghĩa nhất của nhân loại.
Cuốn phim được thiết kế và sản xuất bởi Daya Hewapathirane, và cũng do chính ông cùng cô con gái Apsara Hewapathirane tường thuật.
Căn cứ theo ông Daya Hewapathirane, cuốn phim dựa trên một chọn lọc trên số họa phẩm tinh tế thuộc về một giai đoạn 2,200 năm kể từ thế kỷ thứ ba trước Tây Lịch cho đến thế kỷ này. Nó được thiết kế dưới hình thức như đi hành hương bằng thị giác đến nhiều khu di tích Phật Giáo ở Tích Lan, kể cả các Khu Vực Di Sản Thế Giới.
Các họa phẩm này được tìm thấy trong các hang động cổ xưa và trên đá, trên tường, trần nhà, cửa, gỗ, hình tượng và trên điêu khắc, đồ gốm, đồ đất nung và trên vải vóc. Những họa phẩm cổ kính nhất được tìm thấy trong hình thức rời rạc từng mảnh nhỏ. Giữa những họa phẩm xưa cổ nhất là những tác phẩm khắc trên đá trong hang động, trên tường của điện thờ bên trong các ngôi tháp. Những chủ đề vượt trội mà nghệ thuật cổ xưa theo đuổi bao gồm cả các họa phẩm miêu tả cuộc đời Ðức Phật, “Truyện Bổn Sanh” dựa trên những kiếp quá khứ của Ðức Phật và giáo huấn của Ðức Phật.
Mục tiêu của lọat phim này nhằm phát huy nhận thức về sự phong phú của di sản văn hóa thị giác của Tích Lan. Nó dự trù tạo điều kiện cho sự gặp gỡ thân ái tương tác giữa những cộng đồng khác nhau và sẽ là một phương pháp khuyến khích đối thoại giao lưu văn hóa. Nó đã trở thành một nơi tụ hội cho những cộng đồng quốc tế đa dạng Canada khi được trình chiếu lần đầu tiên tại Ðại Học Toronto hồi tháng Sáu, 2005 và sau đó tại Thính Ðường của Khố Quốc Canada ở Ottawa.
Nó đưa đến sự hình thành đối thoại giao lưu văn hóa, tán dương cả hai lãnh vực nhất thể và đa nguyên. Documentary film show on the arts of the ancient world: Heritage Buddhist art of Sri Lanka

Winnipeg, Canada, 22 September, (Asiantribunr.com): Documentary film show presenting a fascinating aspects of Sri Lanka’s visual culture titled “Arts of the Ancient World: Heritage of Buddhist Paintings of Sri Lanka”, will be held at the St Norbert Arts Centre on 14th and 15th October, as a part of the Conference on "World Religions in School" is planned to be held at the Education Building of the University of Manitoba.
This is a joint presentation of the (1) St. Norbert Arts Centre of Winnipeg (2) Manitoba Buddhist Vihara and Cultural Association (MBVCA) and the (3)Traveling Exhibition Service of Brampton, Ontario (www.kalaava.com).
This film presents a fascinating aspect of Sri Lanka's visual culture. The effort is to provide with an opportunity to enjoy a sense of aesthetic pleasure, artistic appreciation and spiritual joy, through Buddhist art. These paintings are among the most gentle and sublime art of mankind and form a dominant component of the heritage of Sinhala Buddhists. Buddhist paintings have a strong impact on one’s inner spirit, transforming ones mind to a state of innocence and overflowing compassion, joy and peacefulness.
The film was designed and produced by Daya Hewapathirane, and the narrations are by him and his daughter Apsara Hewapathirane.
According to Daya Hewapathirane the film is based on a selection of exquisite paintings that belong to a 2200 year period from the 3rd century BCE to the present century. It is designed in the form of a visual pilgrimage to many Buddhist sites of Sri Lanka, including the World Heritage Sites. Paintings are found on ancient cave and rock surfaces, walls, ceilings, doors, wooden surfaces, statues and other sculpture, pottery/earthenware and on textiles. Earliest paintings are found in a fragmentary form. Among the oldest paintings are those on rock surfaces in caves, and walls of relic chambers inside ‘stupa’ (pagoda). The predominant themes of ancient artistic pursuits including paintings were the life of the Buddha, ‘Jataka Tales’ based on former lives of the Buddha, and the teachings of the Buddha.
The objective of this film is to bring about increased awareness of the richness of the visual cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. It is expected to provide a congenial setting for cordial interaction of different communities, and will be a stimulating way of facilitating intercultural dialogue. It became a gathering place for the diverse Canadian international community, when it was initially shown at the University of Toronto in June 2005, and subsequently at Auditorium of the National Archives of Canada, in Ottawa. It led to informed intercultural dialogue, celebrating both self-identity and pluralism. This is an opportunity where people could see, appreciate and learn and where people can be stimulated with a sense of pleasure, pride and discovery. It can provide people with an aesthetic challenge resulting in a greater cultural awareness and discernment.
The range of art techniques and styles evident in the artistic masterpieces of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage Sites will be of particular interest to contemporary art enthusiasts and creative artists.
Daya Hewapathirane, Director General, Traveling Exhibition Service said in a statement that the net proceeds of the film show will be for Tsunami affected children in Sri Lanka. Tickets for the Documentary show will be available at the St. Norbert Art Centre, the Manitoba Buddhist Vihara and Cultural Association, the Sri Lanka Association of Manitoba, the Insight Meditation Group, the Dhamma Centre and the Tibetan group.
