Tháng Tư là tháng hành hương

Nếu tháng Năm là tháng của hội hè, của liên hoa, thi` tháng Tư là tháng hành hương. Tháng Tư mọi người khắp nơi trên thế giới đã cùng nhau đi hành hương, đi đến những nơi được coi là thánh địa trong tôn giáo của họ. Cuộc hành hương này là để hoàn tất một phần những lời khấn nguyện, bổn phận, ước vọng, mong muốn để giử vững niềm tin thiêng liêng. Tháng Tư là tháng thuận lợi để cam kết hứa hẹn tích cực công quả cho tôn giáo của mi`nh.

Mỗi quốc gia đều có nhiều thánh địa thiêng liêng cho dân chúng đến chiêm bái. Từ cổ chí kim, những vùng này luôn luôn lôi cuốn rất nhiều khách thập phương.

Ở Nam Mỹ có các thánh địa của dân da đỏ. Vùng Trung Đông thi` có các thánh địa của đạo Hồi. Và đạo Thiên Chúa có thánh địa là JeruSalem.

Ấn Độ có hàng ngàn thánh địa. Trong Ấn Độ, tất cả chùa chiền, đền thờ đều được coi là những thánh địa. Trung Hoa thi` có đền thờ Đức Khổng và một số chùa chiền nổi tiếng của Phật giáo, co`n Nhật Bản là vùng của đạo Phật Shintoism.

Phi Luật Tân cũng có nhiều thánh địa. Nơi đó có nhiều ngôi nhà thờ cổ xưa và dẫy núi Banahaw và San Cristobal đã thu hút hàng ngàn khách hành hương, đặc biệt là trong tuần lễ Thánh.

Trong tháng tư hành hương này, chúng ta trở về với vùng thánh địa của chúng ta, và chúng ta sẽ thấy tâm hồn được gột rửa, hay tái sinh, chúng ta thoát ra khỏi những y' nghĩ bất thiện, để chúng ta có thể có một đời sống an lành, tươi mát.

April is Pilgrimage Month

IF May is the Month of Festivals, April is the Month of Pilgrimages. April is the month when people from various walks of life from different countries go on a religious journey to a place that is sacred to one’s religion. This journey is part of fulfilling one’s religious vow, duty, wish, or desire for spiritual renewal. April is the month favorable for one to undertake this religious activity.

Every country has many pilgrimage sites. From ancient to modern times, these sites have remained attractive to people.

Teotihuacan, Chichen Itza, and Izamal in South America; Thebes and Karnak in Egypt and Baalbek in Syria; Delphi and Ephesus in Greece – these were famous pilgrimage sites in ancient times. In Christendom, Rome is the site where Sts. Peter and Paul died as well as the headquarters of the Catholic Church. Bethlehem is the birthplace and Jerusalem is the site of the teaching, trial, and crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus. Fatima, Portugal; Guadalupe, Spain; Lourdes, France; Czestochowa, Poland; and Walsingham, England – these are apparition sites of the Virgin Mary.

Saudi Arabia is famous to the Muslim World. For the Muslim faithful, the Hajj or pilgrimage to the Holy Ka’aba, to the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and the various places he frequented in Makkah, Madina, and Jeddah are important sites.

India has thousands of sacred sites. In India, all temples are considered sacred places. China has its Confucian and Buddhist sites and Japan is the seat of Shintoism.

The Philippines has many sites, too. Its centuries-old churches nationwide and the mountains of Mt. Banahaw and San Cristobal draw tens of thousands of pilgrims, especially during the Holy Week.

In this pilgrimage month of April, let us trek back to a site of our choice, and there undergo the process of spiritual renewal, or rebirth, cleansing our hearts and minds of evil thoughts, so that we can lead refreshed lives.
