Triết Giang, TrungQuốc - Ngôi chùa Asoka – A Dục Vương Tự, nằm trên Thái Bạch Sơn, dưới chân đỉnh Lộc Hoa, tọa lạc gần thành phố Ninh Ba, thuộc miền đông tỉnh Triết Giang, với 1,700 năm tuổi, là nơi bảo tàng ngọc xá lợi thiêng liêng nhất của Ðức Phật.

Ngôi chùa được sùng kính vì là một trong những nơi thờ phụng ngọc xá lợi Phật giá trị nhất của Trung Quốc với một ngôi tháp bảo tàng xá lợi của Ðức Phật Thích Ca-

Người ta nói xá lợi được phụng thờ trong bảo tháp chính là xá lợi xương trong số 84,000 hạt được tìm thấy sau khi trà tỳ.

Căn cứ theo tài liệu Phật giáo, Vua A Dục cổ thời Ấn Ðộ muốn quảng bá Phật Giáo nên gửi tặng Xá Lợi Phật đến nhiều nơi trên thế giới. Mỗi nơi tiếp nhận đều xây dựng bảo tháp để tôn tàng xá lợi

Chùa A Dục Vương tại Ninh Ba vốn được danh tăng Tuệ Ðạt thời Tây Tấn (năm 281) xây dựng nên để thờ phụng bảo tháp và Xá lợi Phật.

Chùa tiếp nhận khoảng300,000 du khách thăm viếng mỗi năm nhưng số người được chiêm bái Xá Lợi ít hơn 1%.

Thầy Giác Nguyên, Trụ Trì chùa A Dục Vương nói : “Xá lợi ở chùa hiện nay là quốc bảo. Chỉ những ai với thành tâm mới được phép chiêm bái. Xá lợi thường được giữ ở một nơi an toàn, được hai tu sĩ canh giữ ngày đêm”.

Một Phật tử nói “Người ta nói được chiêm bái xá lợi cũng như là được gặp Ðức Phật. Cơ hội này đến chỉ một lần trong cuộc đời và tôi thực sự lấy làm vinh dự".

Người Phật tử tin tưởng rằng những ai được chiêm bái xá lợi Phật sẽ nhận được sự may mắn, hạnh phúc.
Chùa A Dục Vương không thực hiện bất cứ nghi lễ nào hay phục vụ đến công chúng, không giống như đa số các tự viện khác của Trung Quốc. CNA/de


CNA films China's most sacred Buddhist relic

ZHEJIANG : The Asoka Temple in Zhejiang province, which is more than 1,700 years old, is the keeper of China's most sacred Buddhist relic.

Channel NewsAsia is the first foreign media allowed to film there.

Asoka Temple is near downtown Ningbo city in China's eastern Zhejiang province.

The temple is revered for housing one of the country's most prized Buddhist relics - a stupa containing the sarira of Syakyamuni - the religion's founder.

It is said that when he died, 84,000 solid beads in brilliant colours were found among his remains.

The body relics of Syakyamuni are call sarira in Sanskrit.

According to Buddhist records, King Asoka of ancient India wanted to further the spread of Buddhism, so he sent these relics to many places all over the world.

For every place that received a sarira, a stupa was built to house the holy gift.

The sarira there has been traced to a monk named Hui Da from the Western Jin dynasty who set out to look for the stupas.

When he came to Ningbo, he heard the sound of an underground ringing bell, and spent three nights worshipping and reading Buddhist scriptures.

The story goes that at the end of that period, he saw a stupa containing a bell with the sarira rising out of the ground before him.

Monk Hui Da then built a temple, now known as Asoka Temple to enshrine the stupa and to worship the sarira.

News of the discovery of the sarira spread far and wide, and almost all Chinese emperors of later dynasties, valued this holy gift highly.

Asoka Temple receives some 300,000 visitors a year but fewer than one percent will get to see the sarira.

Abbot Jie Yuan of Asoka Temple says: "Our sarira is now a national treasure. Only those with sincere hearts are allowed to see and worship it. It is usually kept in a safe which is guarded by two reverends round the clock."

Channel NewsAsia is the first media allowed to film the sacred relic.

Huang Zhiding, Buddhist Follower, says: "There is a saying that seeing the sarira is like meeting the Buddha. This opportunity comes only once in a lifetime and I'm really honoured."

Buddhists believe anyone who sees a sarira will receive blessings.

Asoka Temple does not conduct any rites or services for the public, unlike most Chinese temples. - CNA/de
