The Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara – Tu Viện Phật Giáo Ðại Hồ được thành lập vào tháng 4/1997, dưới sự hướng dẫn của NgàiVenerable Brahmanaga Muditha Thero tại Chung Cư White Hall, phía nam Michigan (ngoại ô của Detroit). Vào năm 2003, Vihara đã được thành lập ở vùng hiện nay, tọa lạc tại số 21491, Beech Road, Southfield, Michigan. Những tình nguyện viên của hội đòan làm việc rất tận tâm tận lực, góp phần tạo thêm vẻ đẹp và không khí thiêng liêng của ngôi chùa.
Hơn 6 năm qua, Vihara là nơi tạo ra những cơ hội lớn cho tất cả những tín đồ ở khu vực Great Lakes và những vùng lân cận tụ họp tham gia các hoạt động tôn giáo bình thường. Từ khi bắt đầu, Vihara đã rổ chức long trọng các lễ kỷ niệm lớn như lễ Phật đản (Vesak), Ngày Pháp Bảo (Poson) và lễ dâng y Kathina và tổ chức các khoá tu thiền dưới sự chỉ đạo của sư trụ trì Brahmanagama Muditha Thero và chư tăng thường trú trong chùa, ÐÐ Sathindrya và ÐÐ Sankicha. Thêm vào đó, hoạt động hàng tuần ở Vihara bao gồm khóa lễ ngày chủ nhật và những lớp thuyết giảng giáo pháp cho người lớn và trẻ em.
Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara được hỗ trợ bởi những Phật tử sùng tín và những đại thí chủ sống ở vùng Great Lakes, những người tìm nơi nương tựa và trao gửi gía trị ở Vihara để thỏa mãn và nâng cao nhu cầu tâm linh cuả họ. Trung tâm Phật Giáo Great Lakes phản ảnh những hy vọng, nguyện vọng và năng lực của một cộng đồng bé nhỏ chủ yếu là Phật tử ở vùng Michigan Great Lakes và phiá Nam Ontario. Nhà chuà tận tâm phổ biến, giảng dạy giáo lý Phật Giáo trong khu vực và yểm trợ, giúp đỡ tinh thần cho mọi người bất cứ tôn giáo nào.
Mục tiêu chủ yếu của Viahra là trở thành một trung tâm an bình nội tại cho tất cả những người trong và ngoài đạo Phật thuộc vùng Great Lakes được thực tập lời dạy của Ðức Thế Tôn theo cách riêng cuả mỗi người.

The Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara was established in April 1997,under the guidance of Venerable Brahmanagama Muditha Thero in the White Hall Apartments, southfield (which is a suburb of Detroit), Michigan. A year ago, in 20003, the Vihara was established at its current location. The dedicated volunteers of the congregation worked very hard and managed to add a beautiful shrine room, enhancing the sacred atmosphere of the temple.
Over the past six years the Vihara, has provided a tremendous opportunity for all Buddhists in the Great Lakes area and neighboring states to congregate for regular religious activities. Since it's inception, vihara has conducted Vesak, Poson and Katina celebrations and meditation retreats under the leadership of the chief resident monk Brahmanagama Muditha Thero and resident monks Ven. Sathindrya and venerable Sankicha. In addition, weekly activities at the vihara include Sunday Buddha Pooja and Dhamma classes for the adults and children.
Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara is supported by the Buddhists and well-wishers living in the Great Lakes area who seek refuge and place value in vihara to satisfy and enhance their socio-spiritual needs. Today, the temple is a place for worship, a place for meditation, a place for learning, a place for fellowship, a place for social welfare and eventually it is expected to become a center for inner peace. The Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara is committed to provide a serene setting for worship and prayer to all Buddhists in their own ways.
The Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara reflects the hopes, aspirations and energies of a tiny community of Buddhists primarily in the Michigan Great Lakes region and in southern Ontario. Our Temple is committed to disseminate Buddhist teachings in the region and to provide emotional or spiritual help to people of any faith.
Our primary goal is to be a center for inner peace for all Buddhists and non-Buddhists in the Great Lakes area to practice the teachings of the Buddha in their own way.
